The College continues to grow with the latest student enrollment of 7,894. This
includes 7,278 undergraduate students and
616 graduate students, who are taught by
135 full-time faculty members.
In the past year, we announced the
creation of our business analytics lab and
our partnership with Lockheed Martin,
Healthcare Business Solutions and SAS
to help make the lab a reality in 2015. It
will be the first of its kind in the nation
and will partner faculty and students with
businesses on projects to help create
solutions to real-world problems.
In the year ahead, we also have plans
to create a live trading floor within the
College to help students experience the
reality of value investing and what it’s like
to work on Wall Street. The Vulcan Value
Partners Research Library and Trading
Room will be located near the analytics lab
in Bidgood Hall.
And we partnered with the state of
Alabama to create the Alabama Center
for Insurance Information and Research.
Dr. Lars Powell was named the director in
2014. The center will serve as a source for
information about various insurance issues.
We were proud to host the SEC MBA
Case Competition in 2014, where all 14 SEC
schools sent a student team to participate in
the three-day event.
We are proud of the hard work in the
Manderson Graduate School of Business in
helping to place our MBAs. Members of the
2014 class of MBA graduates are making
more money and seeing bigger bonuses
than last year’s MBA graduates.
The College is a also leader in
innovation with UA’s STEM Path to the
MBA program, launched in 2011 with nearly
600 students enrolled to date. It’s the only
program of its kind in the nation. The STEM
Path to the MBA offers students majoring
in science, technology, engineering or
math the opportunity to earn an MBA with
one additional year of study — all while
acquiring the communication, leadership,
decision-making and business-analytics
skills needed to thrive in today’s competitive
