INTERIM STUDENTS TRAVEL TO
During the Interim 2014 term, a record
number of 22 students enrolled and
traveled in the accounting study-abroad class. Led by Dr. Tom Lopez,
students visited Ghent University
in Ghent, Belgium, and also visited
London, England. Students attended
a number of tours, including KPMG’s
London office and the International
Accounting Standards Board. According
to Lopez, the course “is dedicated
to the importance of international
financial accounting standards as major
corporations increasingly adhere to
IASB pronouncements, and the world
strives for harmonization.”
GRADUATES APPOINTED TO
Two graduating doctoral students will
begin working in faculty positions. Dr.
Nickolas K. Freeman will become a part
of the University of Houston, where he
will join the Bauer College of Business.
He will teach in the decision and
information sciences department. Dr.
Belleh Fontem will join the University
of Mary Washington in Virginia at the
College of Business.
ALABAMA INSURANCE SOCIETY
Two students who were members of the
Alabama Insurance Society received
positions upon graduation. Sara Hoggle,
AIS president, will work for CRC
Insurance Services Inc. in Boca Raton,
Florida. Tianze Cao, AIS board member,
will work for American International
Group Inc. in New York.
Several AIS members have
internships in major industries during
the summer: Danen Gu and Emma
Kattman, both at Protective Life; Casey
Pickett, at ALFA Insurance; and Alex
Masenheimer, at Americas Insurance Co.
