As we search for a new dean to lead
the Culverhouse College of Commerce,
I am proud to serve as the interim dean
and share some of the exciting news
and stories we have gathered from the
past few months.
In this Fall 2015 issue, we share the
successes of the Learning Initiative
and Financial Training program as we
celebrated its first anniversary. We
took the LIFT program international
to Haiti where 10 of our accounting
students helped teach small business
Our service stories continue as we
showcase our Culverhouse Heroes
4 Habitat and how these business
students are raising money to help
create better lives for the local
We also had student groups travel
to Dublin, Ireland and Istanbul, Turkey
to experience real global supply chain
management. And our STEM Path to the
MBA students traveled to India to teach
entrepreneurial skills to local crafters
as they experience reverse innovation.
We highlight success stories of
our alumni and how they are making
an impact around the world. And we
tell how our professors are making an
impact with students and alumni.
We have implemented new
specializations in digital and social
media, marketing analytics and
value investing. We are launching the
first-of-its-kind in the nation Business
Analytics Lab this fall along with
partners Lockheed Martin, SAS and
Healthcare Business Solutions. We
also launched the new Alabama
Center for Insurance Information and
Research. In 2016, we will be creating
an investment trading room and value
investment research library.
The College is also a leader in
innovation with UA’s STEM Path to
the MBA program, which launched in
2011 with approximately 800 students
currently enrolled. The first class will
graduate with their fellow traditional
MBAs in the spring of 2016.
I look forward to the continued
successes of Culverhouse and sharing
those with you.
