BUSINESS ANALYTICS LAB—OPEN
FOR BUSINESS:
The Culverhouse College of Commerce recently opened
the first-of-its-kind in the nation Business Analytics Lab that
is located on the second floor of Bidgood.
Lockheed Martin, Healthcare Business Solutions and SAS
have partnered with the College on the lab. It features two 40"
plasmas, digital projectors, digital idea boards, and a library
of data resources and visualizations. At the heart of the lab is
a Data Command Center. Students will be able to use this to
monitor trends and see data graphically represented. There
is also an alumni tracker—which will be used to monitor the
impact of Culverhouse alumni on international business.
Apart from being an exceptional opportunity for
students, the lab also benefits businesses that partner
with the College on data analytics projects. Lockheed
Martin chose to partner with Culverhouse because of its
expertise in data analytics, preparation of students
for a global economy and proximity to key Lockheed Martin
Facilities.

ARE FIRST IN THE NATION
BUSINESS ANALYTICS LAB AND VALUE
INVESTING TRADING ROOM
BY EDITH PARTEN
VULCAN VALUE PARTNERS RESEARCH LIBRARY
AND TRADING ROOM
Thanks to a generous $3 million gift, Culverhouse will
become the first college in the nation to offer a specialization
in value investing at both the graduate and undergraduate
levels. Alumnus C.T. Fitzpatrick and his wife, Kelley, made
the donation that will fund the new Vulcan Value Partners
Research Library and Trading Room slated to open in Bidgood
Hall in 2016 near the Business Analytics Lab. The facility will
include real-time stock tickers, computers, conference area,
office space and access to Bloomberg where students will
conduct live trades with actual funds donated by Culverhouse
alumni.
The space will be enclosed in glass and will feature trade
monitors with a separate library and lounge area where
students can gather to research and discuss value investing.
Fitzpatrick is a value investor who owns Birmingham-based
Vulcan Value Partners where he manages more than $10
billion in assets. He and his wife are both passionate about
giving back to the University and giving students the tools that
will set them apart in the workplace. The couple’s donation
will also be used to elevate the current Fitzpatrick Endowed
Professorship to an Endowed Chair and create a second
Endowed Professorship in the value investing curriculum.
