1965
W. Edgar Welden was inducted into
the Alabama Academy of Honors in
2014. Welden is also a member of the
President’s Cabinet.
1969
James T. Ramage III has been named
chairman of the board of directors of the
Alabama Bankers Association. Ramage
is the chairman of the First National
Bank of Brundidge.
Stan Starnes, CEO of ProAssurance
Corp., has been named to the board of
directors for Ascension, a St. Louis-based health care organization. Starnes
is also a member of the President’s
Cabinet. Ascension is a large health
care provider that has 1,900 locations in
23 states.
1972
Stephen L. Norris, co-founder and
President (1988-97) of the Carlyle
Group, a Washington, D.C.-based
Merchant Bank, has joined the Global
Digital Solutions Inc. board of directors
and has been appointed chairman and
CEO of GDSI International.
1974
L. Page Stalcup III, CPA, ABV, CFF,
CVA, a partner with Wilkins Miller
Hieronymus, has received the Chartered
Global Management Accountant
designation from the American Institute
of CPAs and the Chartered Institute of
Management Accountants.
The CGMA designation recognizes
professionals who have deep
understanding of finance and have
expanded their business skills through
experience as management accountants
to help drive better business decisions.
Wilkins Miller Hieronymus has three
professionals who are Chartered Global
Management Accountants. Stalcup
received his bachelor's degree in
accounting and economics.
1975
Vincent A. Tortorici Jr. was promoted
to executive vice president of Brown
Jordan. Tortorici will continue his role as
chief financial officer, which he has held
since March 1988. He has previously
been as vice president and treasurer
of the company, its predecessors and
subsidiaries.
Tortorici earned bachelor’s and
master’s degrees in accounting from
UA’s Culverhouse and is a certified
public accountant.
1977
Thomas Lamberth, president and CEO
of Russell Lands Inc., was recently
featured in a Birmingham Business
Journal article on Russell Lands'
growing empire on Lake Martin.
Michael Snow was appointed President,
CEO and board member of Teamhealth
Holdings, one of the nation's largest
providers of outsourced physician
staffing solutions for hospitals.
1978
Craig Cooning has been named president
of Boeing's network and space systems.
Cooning is a retired U.S. Air Force major
general who concluded his military
career as director of space acquisition
in the Office of the Undersecretary of
the Air Force. He now leads Boeing's
activities in intelligence, security,
surveillance systems, information
systems, space exploration and in
addition to its satellite work.
Cooning will also be on the board of
directors of United Launch Alliance, the
Boeing-Lockheed Martin rocket-launch
joint venture.
Allen Crumbley and Dewey Mitchel,
owners of Berkshire Hathaway
HomeServices, a real estate brokerage
network, announced that Prudential
Commercial Real Estate of Florida
will join their network. They will
now operate as Berkshire Hathaway
HomeServices Florida Properties
Group Commercial Division. Berkshire
Hathaway HomeServices accounts for
more than 31,000 agents and 907 offices
in 46 states. Both Crumbley and Mitchel
graduated from Culverhouse in 1978 and
played football for the University under
coach Paul “Bear” Bryant.
